The scheme launched in 1999-2000 was initially restricted to North-East States. One-time assistance is being provided to suitably strengthen the farms in terms of hatching, brooding and rearing of the birds. Besides income generation, rural backyard poultry provides nutrition supplementation in form of valuable animal protein and empowers women.
