Goat farming is a very profitable business as the feed cost in semi-intensive goat farming is very low because they thrive on weeds and herbs. Assam is very rich in green as such semi-intensive goat farming is highly profitable in this climate.
Goat meat is very much in demand in this part of the country. Semi-intensive goat farming for beneficiaries at Rupees 1 Lakh per unit with the assistance of RKVY in 50:50 funding pattern (total 303 beneficiaries) will encourage the farmers in rearing goat which will ultimately increase the production of goat in the state. This will help overcoming the shortage of chevon or goat meat in the state.
