Semi-Intensive Pig Farming

Progoti Self Help Group

Progoti Self Help Group, a Self Help Group (SHG)  of unemployed youth of  village Dulakakharia of Golaghat District under presidentship of Sri Prafulla Ch. Gogoi had started a mini-fishery unit. This unit was not successful. The SHG was supported  with financial assistance of Rupees  thirty-eight  thousand (Rs 38,000) for semi-intensive  pig  farming  under  RKVY 2008-09 to start a pig farm along with Rupees  thirty-eight  thousand (Rs 38,000) of beneficiary’s share as 50:50 funding pattern. The SHG  started  a  mini  pig  rearing  farm after  receiving 3 female pigs and 1 cross-breed Boar from Veterinary Department, Golaghat under RKVY scheme 2008-09 with  proper  guidance  of  nearest  veterinarian in  their  own  land.

After SHG:

  • After 9-10 months of rearing their pigs the group able to get total 25 piglets from the Saws. These piglets were sold (age group of 3 months) at Rs 1500 - Rs 1800 per piglet.
  • Likewise, in 2010-11, they sold 57 piglets from the 8 saws and earned Rs. 80,000
