Semi-Intensive Goat Farming

Krishi Atmo Sahayak Got

Krishi  Atmo  Sahayak  Got, a Self Help Group (SHG)  of  village  Abrarvita  of Ambari  area  under Goalpara District of Assam had been  supported with financial assistance of Rupees fifty thousand (Rs 50,000) for Semi-Intensive  Goat  farming  under  RKVY 2008-09 to start a goat farm along with Rupees fifty thousand (Rs 50,000) of beneficiary’s share.

After SHG:

  • The SHG started a mini goat rearing farm on 15 July 2009 with proper guidance of nearest veterinarian in their own land with 20 local female goats and 5 Black Bengal male goats.
  • Parallel to the goat farm they started cultivation of Napier grass which reduces their recurring expenditure on fodder.
  • At present, the SHG is running the farm with 22 female goats and 7 male  goats and already they produced and sold total of 118 goats generating satisfactory earning to support their livelihood.
  • Members have also started horticulture farming in their own land.
  • The efforts of the Department and members of the SHG has been appreciated and the secretary of the group, Md. Abdul Halim, has been awarded the 'Best Farmers Award' for his achievement which he received from the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Govt of India on 26 February 2010.
