Sangmaji Pathar, a village situated about 25 km away from Nagaon town was identified. A household survey was conducted on each milk producer of the village to ascertain the total surplus marketable milk.The survey result showed a total of about 1100 litres of surplus marketable milk in the village. An awareness programme was launched in July, 2007. This programme motivated the milk producers, resulting in the formation of a Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS) on 21st July, 2007. The said society was named Jamuna Valley Dugdha Utpadak Samabai Samity. It is registered under Assam Cooperative Societies Act 1949 (Assam Act I of 1950).
The society now handles about 1400 lts of milk. This number is likely to increase as an amount of Rs. 30,000,00/- (Rupees thirty lakhs) has been sanctioned to the members of the society for cattle rearing under Venture Capital scheme by United Bank of India. The society markets their own milk. They earned a profit of Rs,3,00,000/- in the past one year even after remunerating the members.

The formation of societies have significantly benifitted the farmers and increased their income. Some of the reasons being:
