Semi-Intensive Goat Farming

Pragati Self Help Group

Pragati Self Help Group is a Self Help Group (SHG) of women of village Hatibogora under Chandrapur revenue Circle of Kamrup Metropolitan District. Under the Presidentship of Smti. Lakshmi Saikia and the Secretaryship of Smti. Usha Saikia it has been supported  with financial assistance of Rupees  fifty thousand (Rs 50,000) for semi-intensive  goat farming  under  RKVY 2008-09 to start a goat farm along with Rupees  fifty thousand (Rs 50,000) only of beneficiary’s share as 50:50 funding pattern.

Before the SHG:

  • Women in the village were rearing animals in traditional method just to get meat, milk for the family and for little extra source of income whenever possible.

After SHG:

  • The SHG  started  a  mini  goat  rearing  farm  on  January,2010 with  proper  guidance  of  nearest  veterinarian in  their own  land with 40 local female goats and 4 Black Bengal male goats.
  • At  present the SHG is running the farm with 103 goats with a value of Rs 1,00,300 and already they earned Rs 7,300,00 by selling in two months.
